Stars of 'Riverdale,' Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes, on how now girls are running the world.
(22 Jul 2018) WHO RUNS THE WORLD? THE LADIES OF 'RIVERDALE.' A serious girl squad is a top priority for the women of The CW's "Riverdale," both on and off the screen. "Strong female friendships, very important. I love Cami. I love Madelaine. I love everyone that I work with. All the girls are such badasses. This woman right here, such a badass," explained series star Lili Reinhart. Reinhart continued: "I feel like our show is just very much run by the girls on the show. And I hate to say that, but it's like the girls run the world in Riverdale." The actress, who plays Betty Cooper, and her co-star Camila Mendes gushed about the series' supportive environment before breaking out into song with Beyonce's "Run the World (Girls)." "Who runs the world? B and V," belted Mendes, who plays Veronica Lodge. The pair discussed plans to get matching tattoos before recalling their teen drama's humble beginnings at Comic-Con. "Two years ago we were here, nobody knew who we were," Reinhart said. "And now I feel like we've made a name for ourselves and we deserve to be here and that's nice. You know, it's like, oh, we've made it. We deserve to be here. We worked very hard and our show has found its audience and that's such a satisfying thing," Reinhart said. The show is based on the characters of Archie Comics, living in a small town called Riverdale, which is often dark and gritty beneath its perfect image. Mendes, who plays Archie Andrews' on again - off again girlfriend, teased a dark and supernatural third season. "The most exciting thing for me is that there is a new, there's a new mystery. You know, every season we have to have like some new thing and the way that, you know, I got nervous because you're like how do they keep reinventing these mysteries? Like at one point are you going to run out of stuff to do in a mystery world? But they, Roberto, the show runner, came up with a really cool idea and it's kind of like there's a supernatural element to this mystery. There's something weird happening and it's eerie and creepy and no one quite understands it," she said. "Riverdale" returns to The CW in October.
