The Odyssey - A Trojan Horse of a Movie

The Odyssey has finally made it home and Christopher Nolan's new grand opus is...kind of mid. There's no shortage of beautiful shots, landscapes, cinematography, and technical work crammed into this 3 hour film. But they seem to have skimped on the character work, the dialogue, the themes, and everything that makes a story...a story. These aspects were middling at best and it leaves us with a real Trojan horse of a movie. One where the outside is beautiful, grand, and epic, but the inside is hollow, devoid of heart and soul. The controversial casting choices of Elliot Page, Lupita Nyong'o, Travis Scott, and Zendaya for The Odyssey barely played a role in the proceedings. But the performances from the big name stars headlining the movie were unenthusiastic and unremarkable, sucking the life out of the film. And, not long from now, I think The Odyssey will be the most epic movie you don't remember.
