Can a Caline Pedal Power Supply Run a Line 6 HX Stomp?

‪@rayzberg‬ Check this out! Hey All. A quick video answering a question from one of my viewers. Can the Caline CP-206 power a hungry pedal like the Line 6 HX Stomp? Unfortunately no. Due to the technology used in the power supply, namely the linear voltage regulator, it is not capable of powering the pedal, even with a current doubling adapter. Linear voltage regulators take a higher incoming voltage and regulate it down to a lower one. They do not do this very efficiently at high amperage levels, but are okay for low current applications. As you approach the max current the LVR is going to heat up a lot in order to dissipate the waste generated from taking a high voltage to lower voltage. To prevent the LVR from overloading a "series resistor" is placed on the output. In the event of a short circuit, all the energy is put to this resistor which is better than having the LVR burn itself out. This also has the effect of dropping the output voltage across it under high loads. In the case of the HX Stomp, Cioks, Voodoo Lab and TrueTone PSU's are better suited for high current applications. I did this video independent of Caline to help out a fellow viewer. This pedal power supply is still a great budget option, just be aware that high current greater than 500mA is not advisable.
