Exploring SLOVENIA’s Most Unique CASTLE 🏰🇸🇮

This time, we’re visiting the magical Preddvor in the heart of Gorenjska, where fascinating trails, historical castles, local delicacies, and charming stories await us. 🌄 Jamna Peč – Stunning Views Above Možjanca We start our journey at Jamna Peč, a scenic viewpoint offering breathtaking views of the mighty Grintovec, Storžič, and even Krvavec in the distance. Located above Možjanca, this stunning location provides an exceptional perspective for exploring the beautiful landscapes of Gorenjska. The region is known for its mountainous terrain, and this spot gives us a perfect introduction to the awe-inspiring vistas that surround the area. 🏰 Dvor Castle – A Step Back in Time In the heart of Preddvor stands Dvor Castle, one of Slovenia’s oldest medieval castles, first mentioned in the 12th century. Now recently restored, the castle is a delightful blend of rich history and interactive experiences, where you can try on royal clothes and are encouraged to touch and explore everything, making it a truly hands-on experience. We were even lucky enough to meet the real Countess during our visit! The castle café is absolutely beautiful, and the coffee was amazing! It’s a unique experience that combines history with a playful, interactive twist! 🍕 Posmodulja – A Taste of Preddvor For lunch, we headed to Picerija Gorski Privez where we indulged in a delicious traditional Posmodulja – a local dish made with crispy pork fat, zaseka, and onions. We also tried a seafood pizza, as the restaurant is sailor-themed, offering a unique twist on classic Slovenian cuisine! 😋 🏞️ Lake Črnava – A Peaceful Escape After our hearty meal, we visited Lake Črnava, an artificial lake. The lake is surrounded by a well-maintained walking trail, perfect for a relaxing stroll while taking in the tranquility of the area. It’s the ideal spot to unwind and connect with nature. 🌿 🏰 Castle Turn & Josipina Turnograjska Next up is Castle Turn, a stunning 15th-century fortress where Slovenia’s first female poet and writer, Josipina Urbančič Turnograjska, was born. Her tragic life story, including her long-distance relationship with poet Lovro Toman, fascinated us. Josipina wrote exclusively in Slovenian, embracing her Slavic roots at a time when it was rare for women to write in the language. Her legacy lives on today in the castle and the nearby monument dedicated to her memory. ✍️ 🕵️‍♂️ Thematic Trail: The Secret of the Preddvor Storks We end our journey on the The Secret of the Preddvor Storks thematic trail. This unique and fun orienteering trail guides you through an enchanting forest where you’ll uncover the mysterious tale of the magical Preddvor storks. As part of the adventure, we had to complete different tasks along the way, like acting like ants 🐜 and solving puzzles to unlock more of the story. 🧩
