Our Hometown - La Grange, Kentucky
Oldham County, Kentucky, is such a great place to live and we’re excited to share it with you. We have lived here since 2004 and love everything about it. Oldham County is just outside of Louisville, but is far enough away to feel a little bit rural, yet there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. The city of La Grange has a quaint downtown area where a train runs right through the middle of Main Street. Our kids love coming to downtown La Grange and browsing the shops, grabbing a cup of hot chocolate from the locally owned coffee shop, and watching the train go by. I hate to brag, but I think we have one of the best library systems. In 2009 a brand new library opened and our lives haven’t been the same since. When Silas, Cullan, and Micah were little, we went to story time every week. I loved that the kids were able to do a fun craft each time, and I didn’t have to worry about cleaning up! Definitely an ideal scenario for a mom with three little ones. Since then we have participated in a wide variety of library programs. Ranging from story time, craft activities, family fun activities, gingerbread house making, live animal events, puppet shows, game days, Pokemon club, cooking club, gardening club, kindness club, and adult programs. This doesn’t even include all of the programs/activities that are available during their summer reading program each year. Silas is looking forward to being old enough to participate in the teen programs next year. Another fun place that we like to go to is Sisters Tea Parlor. They are half shop and half sit down tea parlor. Every month or so, they offer special themed events, such as Downton Abbey, Wizard of Oz, and Alice in Wonderland teas. We have enjoyed all of our visits there, as both the food/tea and ambiance are absolutely perfect. The Oldham County History Center has also become a family favorite. There are several buildings on the property, one of which is a museum. The museum underwent a major renovation and reopened in 2017. There are a lot of programs that the center offers for all ages. They offer a weekly program for preschool aged children called History Hounds, and a monthly program for home-school families. Earlier this year, they offered a Junior Ranger program that Silas, Cullan, and Micah all participated in. Each month they learned about a different National Park. At the Dahlgren Pioneer Barn they offer cooking demonstrations at their colonial hearth. We’ve sampled potato soup, soda bread, and freshly churned butter. They frequently host dinner cruises and have a dinner author series, as well as a yearly public archaeological dig. It’s such a unique place and we are lucky to have it nearby. Even though we love to travel quite a bit, and discover new things, we are so delighted to live in a place like Oldham County. As Cullan’s beloved Dorothy would say, “There’s no place like home.” Music Credits: Timeless by Scandinavianz / scandinavianz Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download / Stream: https://bit.ly/_timeless Music promoted by Audio Library • Timeless – Scandinavianz (No Copyright Music) Social Media: Facebook: www.facebook.com/seekdiscoverlearn Instagram: seekdiscoverlearn Website: www.seekdiscoverlearn.com Twitter: seekdisclearn
