LA HISTORIA DE “DON” DE MIRANDA, EL HIT QUE NO ACABÓ BIEN PARA ‘LA GUITARRA DE LOLO’ | DOCUMENTAL

Twenty years ago, Alejandro Sergi and Juliana Gattas came together to create "Miranda," a group named after the Argentine actor and comedian Osvaldo Miranda. Much more than a duo, the pair has become an emblem of modern Argentina. They're even called the "millennial" Pimpinela. Since their creation, the two have remained unbreakable, despite having a romance early on. Miranda is considered the most powerful techno-pop band in all of Latin America, and their story begins like this. Alejandro Sergi Galante was born on October 5, 1971, into a musical family. His father was a lawyer and his mother a piano teacher. It was she who planted the seed of art in him, and while he was still in kindergarten, he was given his first guitar. After finishing school, he got a job at a cookie company, but left to focus on a more artistic career, starting out as a sound engineer for bands and events. For her part, Juliana Gattas Salinas, born seven years after Sergi, was drawn to art from a young age, finding in her leisure time, various artistic pursuits that defined her future. Two other members who were with Miranda from the beginning were: guitarist Leandro 'Lolo' Fuentes, who had previously been a Cabin Crew member for Aerolíneas Argentinas; the fourth was Bruno de Vicenti, who eventually became the group's programmer. Alejandro met Juliana in 1998 through a mutual friend, and the connection immediately arose. By then, she was a jazz singer, and he decided to help her by reworking her songs in an electronic style for a show, thus beginning the duo called "Lirio." Things turned out quite well, although perhaps the secret to this unbreakable bond was that they never thought about achieving success; all they aspired to was creating music that reflected their influences and that their friends would enjoy. It was during these adventures that they met Lolo and Bruno de Vicenti, although the guitarist initially confessed that the idea was to form a group of male members. However, Juliana had already been making music with Alejandro, and they were a couple, so the group eventually became a quartet. Aaaah! But according to Lolo, who didn't consider himself an employee of the band but rather one of the founders, it was he who sought out Alejandro after hearing one of his compositions and changed his look, as he was already familiar with the scene in Latin America and knew they could succeed. The lineup finally saw the light of day on July 27, 2001, on Lolo's birthday, which would later become known as "Lolo's guitar." With this lineup, they began to make a name for themselves in some bars. We tell you that, at one of those many gigs, they performed "Imán," a composition by Alejandro that was widely acclaimed. This song, in 2002, was included on their debut album, "Es mentira," but do you know who gave them that little bit of luck? It was the great Gustavo Cerati, who chose "Imán" as the best song of that year in the "Sí!" magazine. From then on, the friendship between Cerati and Miranda grew very close, so much so that they both shared the stage. Hey! It's no secret that Ale is known for his distinctive falsetto when singing; however, he didn't have it before. Be amazed by his long hair in the rap metal band "Mamá Vaca." Going back to Miranda and their first album, did you know they were destined for success? With just their demo, they had already achieved third place as a 2002 Revelation in Rolling Stone magazine. Furthermore, they were nominated for the Clarín Award in the "Revelation Rock Music" category. This group was among the new promises of the Argentine underground, which came into its own when "Sin Restricciones" (Without Restrictions) was released (2004), marking the band's complete breakthrough. But their second single from the album "Don" would be the ticket to enter multiple markets. DON This song, like the others written by Alejandro Sergi, the band's vocalist, was inspired in the middle of a party, and the lyrics came to him while he was writing. Well, while he was writing it, he realized he was talking about a marriage proposal he'd never made to anyone. The funny thing is that Juliana tells him in the interview that he dedicated it to her. In the beginning, Ale and Juliana had a six-month relationship; however, they later realized they meshed quite well, but as friends. Some call them the 'millennial Pimpinela' and, well, while they are not blood brothers, their friendship is very fraternal, and they have achieved that tacit understanding that many duos fail to achieve.
