北京人獨居冰島5年,在小鎮當公務員,笑著過日子

What is the motivation behind a Beijing native working as a civil servant in a remote town in Iceland? I'm Ansen, someone who wants to visit a hundred places and experience a hundred different Chinese lifestyles. Today, I came from Shanghai to Iceland, the edge of the world, and met Xiaoling, who has been here for five years. Xiaoling is the head of the environmental department of the Hofn government in Iceland, but she's in charge of everything here—transportation, climate, even pets. She came to Iceland to study in 2020, and after graduating, she stumbled into a job in the local government, becoming the only Chinese person there. Now, Xiaoling lives alone in the town, paying 8,000 RMB in rent each month. Her life is regular and simple: eating alone, walking her dog, and studying alone every day. Although she doesn't understand Icelandic, this also means she's undisturbed and can enjoy the scenery and beauty of the town alone. I'm very curious: what is it that made her leave Beijing, a city of over 20 million people, and come to a corner of the world with only a little over 2,000 people?
