Behind the Scenes at the San Francisco Opera Costume Shop

With every stitch, drape and snip, the artists at the San Francisco Opera costume shop help create three-dimensional characters — through the garments that they wear. Now, the staff at our costume shop are throwing open their doors, inviting you on a tour of the clothing they’re working on for the summer 2022 season, as well as the centennial. Join senior production supervisor Galen Till and costume shop manager Jai Alltizer as they guide you through the workshop. Discover how San Francisco Opera craftspeople make feather-weight armor and opulent gowns for operas like “La Traviata,” “Dream of the Red Chamber” and “Antony and Cleopatra,” a world premiere on our stage. Their costumes come to the stage, starting this summer with "Don Giovanni:" sfopera.com/giovanni
