Just two years ago, the section of National Route 417 between Gifu and Fukui prefectures was marked by a dotted line. With the construction of the Kanmuriyama Tunnel and the opening of the Kanmuriyama Pass Road, the Chukyo region has become much closer to Hokuriku. However, many people probably just skip the Fukui-Gifu section. We also took a quick trip to Ibigawa Town, Ibi District, Gifu Prefecture, and Ikeda Town, Imadate District, Fukui Prefecture, both of which are home to Mount Kanmuriyama, which you might think you'd just pass right by.
