This Sunday, Boa Sorte Viajante will air the third episode of a very special series recorded in Portugal. Our journey begins in Cevide, considered the northernmost village in Portugal, located about 475 km from the capital Lisbon. 🍀 - Cevide is located near the Trancoso River, which flows into the Minho River, where both courses establish the border between Portugal and Spain. It is also where the Border Marker No. 1 has been located for 160 years, the first of several stone cubes scattered along the border that officially symbolize the beginning of Portuguese territory. About 10 km away from Cevide is the seat of the municipality of Melgaço, which has attracted many extreme sports enthusiasts. Human occupation in this region is ancient, as demonstrated by two important buildings that have been standing since the 12th century: the Igreja Matriz, also called Santa Maria da Porta, and the Castelo de Melgaço, which represents the legitimate heritage of the Portuguese Middle Ages. One of Melgaço's must-see attractions is the Cinema Museum, which displays original publications, photographs and posters, as well as old instruments that preserve history. And speaking of history, the Rosa Maria studio is responsible for keeping Portuguese traditions alive through weaving linen and wool on a mechanical loom, and making dolls that represent folk figures. In addition to weaving and crafts, a hallmark of local culture is the production of wine made from Alvarinho grapes, a variety originating from this region of the Iberian Peninsula.
