Sauljaljui (戴曉君) knows her strength comes from the Paiwan community. She’s a respected teacher known for passing on shared music and culture to the children of her village. Her journey of self-discovery was less of an individual pursuit and more about finding a role in service to others. She aligned with her true purpose and the elders offered wholehearted support of her musical endeavors. The Battle Song Cemavulid is considered a major breakthrough in Sauljaljui’s career. She wrote this song in response to a protest against injustice towards Indigenous communities of the Philippines. A trip that led her to consider what she could to do to support her own Paiwan village.
