March And March Volunteer Speaks Out During Humansdorp Community March 2026
The R330 between St Francis Bay and Humansdorp was closed today as residents took part in a march linked to the Abahambe March and March movement. The march started on the R330 in front of the Humansdorp SPCA before moving through Main Road towards the town centre. Participants later gathered at the Humansdorp Police Station, where a memorandum was handed over. During an interview at the march, Tandokazi Mqakamba, a Humansdorp March and March volunteer from KwaNomzamo, said some of the concerns raised by community members included alleged illegal immigration, drug abuse affecting children, RDP housing allegedly being occupied by undocumented foreign nationals, and expired food allegedly being sold in local shops. Tandokazi Mqakamba: We gathered here in front of the Humansdorp Police Station because we have a march as the community. We are tired of illegal immigrants, and there are a lot of drugs in the community. These drugs are sold in our communities and it has led to our children smoking tik. It is so bad to see this happening in Kouga. We just want the government to intervene in this matter. Mqakamba also raised concerns that RDP houses in the area were allegedly being occupied by undocumented foreign nationals, saying residents wanted the municipality and the wider Kouga community to address the matter. The March & March movement describes itself as a grassroots citizen movement focused on concerns about undocumented immigration, stronger border control, the enforcement of immigration laws, and access to jobs and services for South African citizens. The issue has also prompted a national response. President Cyril Ramaphosa warned that immigration concerns should not be used to incite lawlessness or violence and stressed that the enforcement of immigration laws remains the responsibility of the state. #KougaNews #Humansdorp #Kouga #MarchAndMarch #LocalNews
