This bay is a region of immense natural beauty and cultural delights, but it's threatened by a fight that shouldn't even have begun... A fight between man and sea, over land. The sea is advancing, not invading... However, it is advancing and destroying everything in its path. The proposal is to approach this topic from a different perspective. Instead of preaching the idea that the sea is invading Baía da Traição, I invite you to understand that the municipality of Baía da Traição is the one invading the sea. It's a very delicate situation, involving various sectors of society. In addition to the government, there are residents, business owners, tourism and fishing workers, and real estate investors who don't live here, simply own vacation homes. It's also worth highlighting the indigenous villages, our native people, and of course, the sea itself, which, we must remember, is a living element, constantly transforming according to the planet's evolution. It's all quite complex. In the video discussion, we divided Traição Bay into three sectors: north, central, and south. The fact is that some areas of the beach should never have been inhabited, and this problem isn't new; it's been going on for decades, even centuries. In the northern sector, we clearly see that the sea area, indicated by a blue line, has been unscrupulously invaded by lots that are, surprisingly, duly legalized. Add to this another area, delimited by the green line, which belongs to the river and has also been invaded by properties. We have there, in the northern sector, an environment where river and sea converse and exchange ideas, where man has decided to interfere and disrupt this dialogue. This is just the beginning of a series of videos we'll be publishing about the Bay of Traição. We'll delve deeper into this issue that affects this beautiful city, especially on high tide days. In this video, we show the state of the entire coastline, from north to south... and in the next ones, we'll expand on the details. In the city's central area, the most urbanized, it's absurd to see properties literally in the sea. Constructions completely outside the natural order, although we could even say they're within the human order, right? Since they're duly legalized. The Bay is an atypical case that combines the geographical aspect. It's an extremely low-lying area, in some places even below sea level. This causes the sea to naturally intrude into the continental part. Then, historical factors come into play, right? The origins of the people of Bahia stem from the wars between Indigenous people and Europeans, a colonization based on fishing and agriculture, where the first residents crowded into the village without proper planning. This resulted in what we have today: a completely disorganized urban center, with houses exposed to the waves within the land. The entire central area of ​​the urban area was invaded, exceeding the high-water mark, an imaginary line drawn in 1831 that serves as a basis for establishing a 33-meter strip of land (navy land) where construction is prohibited. Even considering the 19th-century high water mark, which is within the current water mark, since the ocean level has risen since then, this entire 33-meter strip belongs, or should belong, to the Union, to the country. The question is: why were buildings like this allowed, in the tidal range? These buildings resemble the fortresses of the past that served to defend the coast from invaders. In the southern sector, the situation is different. We have a different type of damage that threatens to radically change the entire biodiversity and possibly even the city's map.
