How does a Kenometer work?
If you haven't gotten the hang of using a Kenometer, this video will show you how to get the alpha (structure) and beta (rotational) readings of your drill core. The most user-friendly device for the measurement of alpha and beta angles in core samples, the Kenometer will save you time in core analysis while still providing you with accurate readings. This Australian-designed geological tool made from anodised aluminum makes drill core orientation measurements fast and precise. The aluminum proves to give strength whilst being lightweight - perfect for field use. The tools measurement markings are laser-etched meaning that even after years of use, the Kenometer will still be easy to read. Here are tips how to use: 1. You need a drill core with an orientation line, without which you wouldn't know where it's sitting in the ground, and where the downhole is. 2. When making measurement, put the core into the Kenometer from the top with the downhole towards the head. 3. Find the structure with your inner. Line up your zero degree marker at the top with the bottom of the ellipse formation. Basically what you're doing is lining up that formation against the protractor angles, which gives you the Alpha reading. 4. Using the ellipse lining up with the zero as a reference point, rotate the core around to see where the downhole orientation is. That's your Beta angle. Have any other Kenometer usage tips?
