It is designed to engage and disengage the power transmission based on the rotational speed of the engine. The working principle of a centrifugal clutch is based on centrifugal force, which is the force experienced by an object moving in a circular path. The clutch consists of several key components, including the clutch drum, clutch shoes, and springs. The clutch drum is connected to the engine crankshaft, while the clutch shoes are mounted inside the clutch drum and can move radially. The clutch shoes typically have friction pads on their outer surfaces that make contact with the inner surface of the clutch drum. When the engine is idling or running at a low speed, the clutch shoes are pushed outward by springs, maintaining a gap between the shoes and the clutch drum. In this disengaged state, no power is transmitted from the engine to the driven shaft. As the engine speed increases, centrifugal force comes into play. The rotating motion causes the clutch shoes to move outward due to the centrifugal force acting on them. As the shoes move outward, their friction pads come into contact with the inner surface of the clutch drum. The friction between the clutch shoes and the clutch drum causes the clutch shoes to grip the drum tightly. This engagement allows the power from the engine to be transmitted to the driven shaft, thereby driving the vehicle or machine. The engagement of the clutch is directly dependent on the engine speed. When the engine speed decreases, the centrifugal force decreases, and the springs push the clutch shoes back into their disengaged position, separating them from the clutch drum. This disengagement interrupts the power transmission, allowing the engine to idle or stop without stalling the driven shaft. The design of the clutch shoes, springs, and clutch drum can vary depending on the specific application and manufacturer. Different configurations may allow for adjustments in engagement speed or provide multiple stages of engagement to accommodate varying engine speeds. #flywheel #flywheelworking #theroryofmachines #clutches #clutchesworking #compitativeexams #mechanicalengineering #automobile #automobileengineering #automobilecomponents #clutchparts #typesofclutches
