Delaware and Gettysburg
In the spring of 1861, as Southern states voted to secede from the Union, Delaware – a border state that still permitted slavery – chose to remain in the Union. Several regiments were raised to join the Union army. But a number of individuals sympathetic to The South joined the Confederates just over two years later. They would meet on the hills and fields of Gettysburg. Presented by the Delaware Heritage Commission.
