In this video, my colleagues Timur Karimov and Egor Egorychev and I analyze our colleagues' projects in the residential building category. Find out why a bold student manifesto turned out to be far more interesting than the proposed premium villa with a swimming pool in Sochi. In this episode, we take a detailed look at individual design projects and examine two completely different projects. The first project is a bold architectural statement by Igor Nikitin, my student from the fourth internship program. It's not a classic country house, but an experimental structure with a glass conservatory suspended from a sturdy frame. We debate utility and aesthetics: we examine the cramped ground floor layout with long corridors, discuss complex facades, and the beautiful visual effect of "torn fabric" from the planks. It's possible to live in such a house, but the main thing here is the challenge and the designer's attempt to find his own unique style. The second project, proposed as a premium villa in Sochi, left our jury deeply disappointed. I honestly show examples of what shouldn't be done: monstrously proportioned windows (like those in a typical Khrushchev-era apartment), senseless layout decisions, and a huge hammam with a swimming pool that, for some reason, can't be accessed directly from the house. Modern architecture doesn't forgive a random collection of forms without a common theme. The amusing paradox is that the staff apartment in this large-scale project turned out much more cozy and elegant than the luxury villa itself. Also, in the middle of the issue, I make an important lyrical digression: this season, we've abandoned intrusive advertising so as not to clutter the delicate conversation about architecture, so our project really needs your support.
