Installing Windows 1.0 on an IBM 5160

Installing Windows 1.0 on an IBM 5160. In 2021 an internal move took place at my former employer, and the IBM 5160 computer would be mine at the moment that the move started. This IBM 5160 turned out to be the first computer that my employer put into use, somewhere in the 1980s. The moment it was certain that I was really allowed to take over this unique piece of history, I took the computer with me as soon as possible (imagine that anyone would change their mind). Also partly for that reason, this IBM has been given a nice place in my collection. I think about 10 years ago I bought a Dutch Windows 1.03 package with the 5.25 inch floppy's included. In retrospect, I was surprised that I never checked in all those years whether those diskettes were still working. That very first attempt was therefore made on a gamble while the camera was rolling. An installation of Windows 1.0 on this IBM 5160 only takes a few minutes, and all 6 floppy's still work after a good 35 years. Now the next step will be to copy these floppy disks so that the data is preserved forever. Incidentally, on my earlier Windows 1.0 video from 2013, I once received a message from a gentleman from Belgium asking if I can make a copy of the floppy disks and make them available. I'm going to try that again with this one, I just can't say when. Watch my blog, https://dc4.nl/?mtm_campaign=Discript....
