You don't need to learn new scales to get into this music, the ones you already know are fine. The thing that is going to give sense to your fusion improvisations is rhythm. In this case, we are going to use a Dorian backing track. Just use the minor pentatonic and add the major second and the major sixth. Don't play all the time, take pauses so you can recharge your brain. Use subdivisions (in this style sixteenth notes work great) and create rhythmic phrases as the base for your soloing. Then, introduce some outside playing. One trick is to fill your pentatonics with chromatic notes. Another approach is what I call diagonal shapes, patterns of notes that you can move around the fretboard wherever you want. Finally, when you hit a rut, slow things down.
