Fat Dog 100K (2024)
On August 10, 2024, I participated in the Fat Dog 100K trail race. This 62 mile point-to-point course is set in the rugged Cascade mountain ranges of British Columbia, Canada. The Canadian wilderness exposed me to various types of weather, wildlife, and technical terrain. This was the first time I did a race in such a remote location, but those incredible mountain views were worth it! What made this course challenging was the elevation gain of 14,000 feet. It was like climbing to the top of the Empire State Building more than eleven times. The trail also started at an altitude of 2,500 feet and peaked at 7,000 feet. The higher I climbed, the more difficult it was to meet my oxygen demands. This was a challenge since most of my training was performed at sea level.
