Dendri est un projet musical né de la rencontre, en 2008, d’un batteur Tunisien, Mohamed Khachneoui et d’une musique rituelle ancestrale Afro-Tunisienne, le Stambeli. Conquis par les sons singuliers d’instruments qu’il voyait pour la première fois et l’empreinte rythmique particulière du Stambeli. Le groupe fit son entrée en scène en 2015, lors d’une Jam session organisée par l’Association Jazz Club de Tunis à l’occasion du festival de Jazz à Carthage. Dendri a su créer un répertoire moderne, aux affinités Rock et Jazz et aux sons Afro-futuristes; une musique funambule qui avance sur une corde perchée entre passé et futur sans jamais tomber dans la folklorisation ou la défiguration de ce patrimoine inestimable. Au-delà de sa valeur musicale incontestable, le projet vise à ramener à la scène cette tradition Tunisienne et Nord-Africaine ancestrale en voie d’extinction et toute la connaissance qui l’entoure. —— Dendri is a musical project born from the meeting, in 2008, of a Tunisian drummer, Mohamed Khachneoui with the ancestral Afro-Tunisian ritual music, Stambeli. Conquered by the singular sounds of instruments he saw for the first time and the particular rhythmic imprint of the Stambeli. The band made its debut in 2015, during a Jam session organized by the Association Jazz Club of Tunis during the Jazz Festival in Carthage. Dendri has created a modern repertoire, merged with Rock and Jazz affinities and Afro-futurist sounds; a tightrope music that moves forward on a string perched between past and future without ever falling into the folklorization or disfiguration of this invaluable heritage. Beyond its undeniable musical value, the project aims to bring back to the scene this ancient Tunisian and North African tradition in danger of extinction and all the knowledge that surrounds it.
