Christmas Carols on Grafton Street, Dublin City, Ireland 1988
Dubliners on Grafton Street sing carols and songs associated with the Christmas season. ‘Jingle Bells’ is a popular Christmas carol with members of the public on Grafton Street who are asked to sing a seasonal song. Some of the younger singers are shy, but others rise to the occasion. ‘Last Christmas’ the Wham! song features while one young man veers away from the Christmas theme altogether and serenades his girlfriend with ‘You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’’ by The Righteous Brothers. The more traditional ‘Silent Night’ is the choice of one group of friends who are feeling the Christmas spirit. This episode of ‘Jo-Maxi’ was broadcast on 19 December 1988. ‘Jo Maxi’ was a youth lifestyle programme targeted at 10 to 14 year olds. The programme contained features on a broad range of topics including animals, fashion, music, books and profiles of young people voicing their views on various subjects. The original presenters on the show were Ray D’Arcy, Geri Lalor, Clíona Ní Bhuachalla and Antoinette Dawson.
