Honda CR500R VS CRF450R! Chi VINCE in pista? Ecco l'incredibile risultato!

The Honda CR500R 2-stroke of the past was a monster, a true motocross legend: 65 horsepower, 100 kg, no electronics. Just a nice carburetor and plenty of gas! But what would happen if we compared it to a flaming Honda CRF 450R Anniversary? To find out, we went to the track in Chieve and compared them. On the one hand, the exuberant power and lack of engine braking (as on every 2-stroke bike) of the 500; on the other, the manageable power and modern aluminum frame of the 450. But, in practice and given the same rider, how much difference is there between the two? Does today's 4-stroke outshine its legendary 2001 predecessor, or can the 2-stroke bike, so light and explosive, still hold its own? The stopwatch doesn't lie and gives us a somewhat astonishing verdict: Honda CR500R my 2001: 1 minute and 57 seconds Honda CRF450R my 2023: 1 minute and 55 seconds A 2-second difference! That's a lot in speed, but nothing in motocross. A sign that the 500s of that time were already incredibly efficient and fast. So where does the evolution in motocross lie? In bike management: a 500 will physically demolish you in two laps, while a 450 allows you to turn and manage the horsepower much more easily!
