The city of Alba Iulia is one of the most ancient cities in Romania, founded by the Romans in 106 AD. During its more than two thousand years of history, the city has changed its name several times, but has always remained an important cultural and historical center of the region. The first thing that catches your eye when visiting Alba Iulia is its majestic fortress of Alba Carolina. The fortress was built in the 18th century on the site of a former Roman camp and became one of the largest fortresses in Europe. Today, the fortress houses a museum of history and archeology, where you can learn about the history of the city and the region. This is a small city, but many interesting historical events took place in it.
