PEÑALARA INVERNAL POR LA CANAL CENTRAL | SIERRA DE GUADARRAMA-MADRID/SEGOVIA

Winter ascent of Peñalara (2,428 m), in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park (Madrid) via the Central Couloir from the Peñalara Lagoon (200 meters of elevation gain, 45º average slope). Ice axes, helmet, and crampons are essential. Approach from the Cotos Pass (Madrid/Segovia). Classic ascent to the col between Hermana Mayor (Dos Hermanas) and the summit of Peñalara, avoiding the famous snow cornice (or Ceja) that forms every year and sometimes produces small avalanches.
