Making a floating wine cork bowl
In this experimental project, I made a bowl out of wine corks which appear to float within clear urethane resin. I would say this was mostly a success as I'm pleased with the resulting object and I learned a ton along the way. I began by turning a negative of a plastic bowl from glued up dimensional lumber (2x4 etc.) scraps. I coated this negative with several coats of Alumilite resin and then glued corks all over the outside. This was then cast with resin inside of the bowl which acted as a mold. Mistakes were fixed and then I turned out the negative portion before cleaning up and finishing the inside. I'm not in a hurry to repeat this, but have some ideas to make the next one much better - eventually. Please enjoy!
