Estelle Mouzin : l’ombre de Fourniret... #cdanslair 28.11.2019

This may be the end of a mystery that has lasted nearly seventeen years. Serial killer Michel Fourniret was formally charged last night with "kidnapping and false imprisonment resulting in death" in the investigation into the disappearance of Estelle Mouzin. This development comes a week after his ex-wife's statements to the Parisian investigating judge who took over the case this summer, a case in which the serial killer's name has been mentioned several times in the past. Already sentenced twice to life imprisonment for the murders of eight young women or teenage girls, preceded by rape or attempted rape, between 1987 and 2001, Michel Fourniret has until now always denied his involvement in the girl's disappearance, which occurred in 2003 in Guermantes, Seine-et-Marne. He claimed to have been at his home in Sart-Custinne, Belgium, 250 kilometers away, that day. As an alibi, the "Ogre of the Ardennes" claimed he had made a phone call to his son on the evening of the events for his birthday. His son hadn't answered, but the call was confirmed by phone records. However, last Thursday his ex-wife undermined this version of events, telling the judge that she herself had made the call at her husband's request, as he was not present that day. Incarcerated for fifteen years, Monique Olivier offered no further details to the magistrate. "The evidence gathered will determine whether or not he was in another region and whether or not he is the person who abducted Estelle Mouzin. But we already have the starting point for the Fourniret lead," her lawyer explained. Nine-year-old Estelle Mouzin disappeared on the evening of January 9, 2003, while walking home from school. Her body has never been found, and the numerous leads pursued by investigators have so far yielded nothing. In 2006, police first focused their attention on Michel Fourniret. A photo of Estelle Mouzin had been found on his computer, and a white van similar to the killer's had been spotted in Seine-et-Marne at the time. In 2018, speculation about his possible involvement resurfaced after a hearing concerning the murders of Marie-Angèle Domece and Joanna Parrish, killed in 1988 and 1990 in the Yonne region. Facing Judge Sabine Khéris, now also assigned to the case, Michel Fourniret, according to a source close to the investigation, stated that Estelle Mouzin's disappearance was "a subject worth investigating," adding that he felt he was "in deep trouble" in this affair. These statements were considered "implicit confessions" by the lawyers for Estelle Mouzin's father, who has been engaged for seventeen years in a relentless fight to learn the truth about his daughter's disappearance. They now deplore the belated indictment. "Our feeling is obviously one of great waste, given that the Mouzin family had to wait seventeen years to stumble upon an initial lead, which was then revisited and discussed for years before finally leading to this indictment today," lamented Ms. Corine Herrmann. So what are the elements that make the "Ogre of the Ardennes" the prime suspect? Was there a lack of investigation into the Fourniret case?
