Outer Elbow Pain? 5 Tennis Elbow Exercises for Fast Relief at Home | Doctor and Physio Demo

In this video, Dr James O’Donovan (medical doctor) and Ella Boys (chartered physiotherapist) explain what tennis elbow is, why it causes pain on the outside of the elbow, and which tennis elbow exercises can safely support recovery at home. Tennis elbow (lateral elbow tendinopathy) is a common cause of outer elbow pain, often triggered by repeated gripping, lifting, typing, or wrist movements — not just sport. The good news is that most cases improve with the right advice, gradual loading, and time. We demonstrate: • Gentle elbow flexion and extension to maintain movement • Forearm rotation (pronation and supination) to reduce stiffness • Progressive isometric wrist extensor strengthening (3 levels) to safely load the tendon • Forearm strengthening using weights for controlled rotation. Each exercise includes easier and harder options so you can progress safely. We explain what level of discomfort is acceptable, how often to exercise, and how to avoid aggravating the tendon. These exercises for tennis elbow are designed to reduce pain, improve tendon resilience, and help you return to daily activities confidently. Only perform these movements if they feel comfortable, and avoid pushing into sharp or worsening pain. If you are unsure whether these exercises are suitable for you, speak to your GP or physiotherapist.
