This is the 12th online study session of the Creative Writing Club, announced in the July 2026 issue of *Shokai*! The Creative Writing Club is a division where participants compete by creating (imitating) a given theme (this time, a five-character quatrain) using various calligraphic styles and fonts from printed type. This time, the theme was apparently very difficult in terms of its characters, and we could see the effort the participants put in. It seems that "theory" is essential when writing from printed type, so we hope this will be helpful for those studying calligraphy. Shokai is a calligraphy competition magazine edited by Yoshizawa Tetsuyuki. Our magazine aims to cultivate the ability to write from printed type while learning various classical calligraphic works.
