Megan Teng, from Taiwan, a double major in Mechanical Engineering and International Business from National Taiwan University, served as the student representative to deliver the commencement address. Teng began with humor, expressing special gratitude to her 96-year-old grandmother. She revealed that when her grandmother learned she was going to the US to pursue her doctorate, she cried on the phone, worried that her grandmother's advanced age might prevent her from "waiting five years." This made Teng rethink the weight of a degree: "It's the guidance of top scholars, countless lonely and sleepless nights, and the sacrifices made by family to support us and allow us to grow."
