The housing affordability crisis has sparked social unrest, with protests erupting across Mallorca and other Spanish regions. Demonstrators are calling for tighter controls on short-term rentals and foreign property ownership to address the housing shortage and rising costs. In response, the Balearic government has enacted a decree to stabilize 90,000 existing tourist rental licenses, aiming to balance tourism with local housing needs.
