It's an open-air public venue in downtown Gainesville, Florida that was re-purposed to accommodate a paying audience, meaning lots of chain link fences and security. I arrived early and was able to score a spot at the barrier (as usual) and noticed the PA system was in front of me, raised above. In front of the stage were multiple speaker cabinets, too. Woofers, perhaps? Either way, I was pleased to see this speaker array which meant my sound was going to be decent. My goal, since I only bought tickets for this venue, was to shoot all acts from beginning-to-end for all three days. Yeah, a crazy goal, huh? But I pulled it off. Even when I got bad shots, I kept the camera rolling until the view cleared and took advantage of it as best as possible. The end result is I have a mix of great videos, alright videos, and some that are WTF? Welp, maybe not, but they're watchable if you're patient and stream the whole thing. With the heavy presence of security on film, you'd think I'd know them intimately by now. Nope. New crews of fresh workers came in to replace the previous shift. I found shooting during the day had sympathetic security folks who got out of the way versus the night ones who didn't give a shit. I had to work the best I could considering these circumstances. Security was heavy in the space between my barrier and the stage. They spaced themselves five feet apart and their presence is seen throughout this video. Kind of reminds me of my videos from The Fillmore in Silver Spring, Maryland with security guys always in the shots! The difference with these guys are that they're fans of the music and you can see them singing/nodding their heads/etc. Really refreshing, actually, but still needed them to move! LOL And then there were the photographers. I'm glad with the first-three-songs rule, I was able to clear them afterwards. It was interesting seeing the shots the photographers were taking because they also were doing crowd pics. I'm sure some of them were FEST staffers so I'm interested in seeing what gets posted online. Hell, pics of me are just gonna feature a dude with an iPhone up to his face! Hahaha While shooting, I found it funny that I wanted a crowd surfer to appear for the security guys to leave and give me five-minutes of a clean shot until they returned! LOL But then again, I'm not a pro shooter, so what you're getting is a fan-shot perspective, "with warts and all."
