Wilson Brothers Unedited Recording Session for Meeting in the Air 1994
Songs include: Leaning on the Everlasting Arms, I Twice Belong to Thee, Cabin by the Side of the Road, and Tree of Life. Despite my best efforts to be accurate, I made a lot of errors in this video. The main one is that I thought there were only two songs that were attempted and discussed over the course of two hours, when in fact, there were four songs. Pap and Ray learned Cabin by the Side of the Road from the Country Gentlemen (Charlie Waller). It's neat to hear them trying to learn the song in this session, since this song eventually became one of their more popular songs, played countless times on WKRK of Murphy, often by request. They learned Tree of Life from Reno & Smiley, and it was written by Don Reno. R & S did the song a quartet with their bass player, Ronnie Palmer, providing the bass vocal and Mac McGaha, their fiddler, the third vocal part. I wound up shooting the intro and editing the entire video late last night. You know you're tired when you say "Will and Bilma" instead of " Bill and Wilma" or when you call a banjo player a fiddler! :-) Anyway, I somehow got this video made and uploaded in time, thank the Good Lord. :-) I do not think the Meeting in the Air recording is still available, but I could be wrong. If you're interested in acquiring it, you could always search online or contact the John C Campbell Folk School. Thank you for watching this extremely long video. I hope you enjoyed some parts of it. :-) Listen to original singles released on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5VX6Z...
