Kibera Slum—known as Africa’s largest slum—sprawls across Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. It is estimated that over two million people live here, many surviving on just a few cents a day. Amid this harsh reality, one Japanese woman has devoted 26 years of her life to standing by the children of Kibera. Her name is Chiaki Hayakawa. Why has she continued her work for more than a quarter of a century in a distant slum far from Japan?
