How to master the Violin Bow Hold in 3 steps | Karthick Iyer

Hello! To register for the upcoming course click here http://bit.ly/violinwithki In general, I find that the basic bow hold varies greatly from one Carnatic violinist to other. Some players even hold it well past the frog. This might make sense for very young students who might have trouble balancing the weight of the bow. Having started with this bow hold when young, I moved to the western classical style bow hold after a decade or more of playing. Upon comparison of both these types, I would definitely recommend the western bow hold to violinists irrespective of their level of playing. The western bow hold (described in detail below) takes into account various bow strokes and techniques and accommodates the position of the fingers in a way that helps these vast arrays of bow-strokes. While the hold itself might be intimidating, at first, for players who might be used to their own style, considering the long-term benefits, I urge you to take some time out to shift to this bow hold.
