Our journey to reach the only village of the Juma Indigenous People is along the BR-230 highway, towards Lábrea, in southern Amazonas. It's the rainy season, and the largest unpaved stretch of the highway is riddled with mud. It took the reporter about three hours to travel 120 km to the Assuã River, from where we continued by boat. It's another 40-minute trip through dark waters and lush natural scenery. The road to the village is full of curves and narrow forest corridors. A Juma man guides us.
