Trapped in the Wakhan Corridor: Inside the Afghan Kyrgyz Nomadic Community | SLICE | FULL DOC

High in the Pamir mountains of Eastern Afghanistan lives one of the most isolated communities on Earth: the last Kyrgyz nomads. At 4,300 meters above sea level, 1,200 people survive without roads, electricity, or schools—cut off from nearby China, Tajikistan, and Pakistan by frozen borders and history. Filmmaker Louis Meunier follows these families for a full year, capturing their struggles, their seasonal migrations, and their fight to preserve ancient traditions in a rapidly changing world. Through the story of Abdul Wali and his son Nematullah, we witness how marriage, family alliances, and survival are negotiated in a place where livestock, not money, defines value. This intimate portrait asks a stark question: can the Kyrgyz nomads endure in the Wakhan Corridor, or must they finally abandon their high-altitude homeland?
