Destroying iPhone Cases with Hand Sanitizer
Over the last few months, we discovered certain iPhone cases didn't fare well under heavy hand sanitization. Being actual reviewers, Monty and I had to get to the bottom of this new mystery because, well, we're reviewers! In this video: 0:00 Intro 0:26 Setup 3:51 Which cases did we use? 4:29 Plan A - Spray 6:41 Plan B - Submersion 10:36 The Aftermath 12:08 Cases That Failed 15:49 Cases That Semi-Failed 16:51 Clear Cases 17:25 Cases That Passed 18:36 Stupid Stuff Here's our Top 10 List that we pulled most of our cases from: • TOP 10 iPhone 11 Cases (Pro and Pro Max In... #ReviewerNotInfluencer #TechReviews #UnsponseredContent #MobileReviewsEh Here's a list of the cases we used in this video: Razor ArcTech Slim Moshi Altra Otterbox Commuter Apple Leather Case 15:21 Cork case Mujjo Leather Case UAG Monarch Caudabe Sheath LifeProof Slam LifeProof Next Apple Silicone Case Tech 21 Studio Color Ciel Color Brick Casetify Conscious Loopy Case Caseology Nano POP Speck CandyShell Grip Nomad Active leather Case FloLab TaffyCa Pitaka MagCase Pitaka MagCase PRO Spigen Crystal Hybrid Casetify Ultra Impact Laut Wallet Case Tech 21 Pure Clear Mous Contour Classic leather Rhinoshield Solid Suit Spigen Clear Case Pelacase First thing we had to do? Get hand sanitizer. We discovered that a 20L bucket of 80% Ethanol hand sanitizer costs almost $200. Who knew. The second thing we had to do was figure out how to apply the hand sanitizer. We landed on using a sprayer. The first round of tests involved spraying the cases outside and letting them dry in the summer sun. We tried did this on the hour, every hour for few days and after 13 applications, the only thing we noticed that one of the cases (the Laut) started falling apart from the heat of the sun, not the hand sanitizer. For the next round of tests, we aggressively wiped down each case to see if that would do anything...it didn't. So 26 sprays and wipes later, we decided to turn it up a notch by fully submerging the cases in hand sanitizer. The first soak was only 8 hours and stuff started to happen! Finally! I did the slew test for a total of 4 times, with the cases spending about 30 hours in the last slew before taking them out. Throughout this entire test period, I was certain that most of the cases in the slew was going to be ruined. Why? Because while pulling them out, lots of the cases were warped and the button areas were bent out of shape. Now I let the cases dry for a couple of days before going back and looking at them. Now as I said before, I thought most of them were going to be ruined BUT to my surprise, most of them weren’t. In fact most of the cases returned to their original shape. Most. So the award for the least hand sanitizer friendly case, or the LHSFC award, goes to the Apple Leather case. Because the moment the case was exposed, stuff just started coming off. Could you imagine spraying your case down, having it slough off without you knowing and then touching your clothes with the case. Now cases that completely failed this test include the: LifeProof Next Tech 21 Studio Color UAG Monarch, specifically the red version because the red just comes off Custom Casetify Impact Laut Leather Wallet case Arctech Slim as the finish started coming off 15:21 Cork Case Moshi Altra Rhinoshield SolidSuit Cases that you need to be careful because stuff might come off or the case might deform easily: Mous Contours (excluding the Classic leather) Mous Limitless Mujjo Leather Case (I will admit that I was surprised how good the rest of the Mujjo case looks like) Nomad Rugged Case The Loopy case Smartish Wallet Case Nomad Active Leather as the TPU edge’s warped like crazy If you’re looking for the best leather case, go with the Mous Contour classic or the Nomad Active Rugged cases. The Contour did well and is tougher between the two though the Active Rugged Case with it’s hydrophobic leather looks the same as before. Every clear case we had turned a certain color. In this group we had a couple of Spigen Clear cases, the Tech 21 Pure Clear and the Flolab Taffyca. Cases that came out of this ordeal, generally unscatched after being dried include the: -Pitaka Magcase and Mag case pro -Apple Silicone Case -Speck Candyshell Grip -Lifeproof Next -Caudabe Sheath -Ciel Color Brick -Casetify Consious ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to stay in the loop!
