“Enchanted Nymph” played by Mischa Levitzki in 1929 Ampico piano roll
Mischa Levitzki (1898-1941) was a Russian (Ukranian-)-born US concert pianist who recorded extensively for the American Piano Company's Ampico system. He died suddenly at age 42 from a heart attack at his home in New Jersey. A selection from Ampico Roll #100275 is heard here on a newly-restored 1926 Chickering 5’4” Ampico A piano, restored in early 2026 at Historic Pianos. This "jumbo" roll was issued in December 1929, and was intended for use on the new Ampico B instruments with larger drawer capacity. Here Levitzki plays own tone poem or "mini-ballade" titled "The Enchanted Nymph."
