Roblox is an online virtual workshop and playground where kids of all ages can safely interact, create, have fun, and learn. It's unique because virtually everything in Roblox is designed and built by community members. Roblox is designed for young people ages 8 to 18, but it's open to people of all ages. Each player starts by choosing an avatar and giving it an identity. They can then explore Roblox, interacting with others by chatting, playing games, or collaborating on creative projects. Each player also receives their own undeveloped piece of real estate along with a virtual toolbox to design and build anything they can imagine, whether it's a navigable skyscraper, a working helicopter, a giant pinball machine, a multiplayer game of Capture the Flag, or some other creation yet to be dreamed up. This first plot of virtual land is free. By participating and creating cool things, Roblox members can earn special badges as well as Roblox dollars (“Robux”). They can also consult the online catalog to purchase clothing and accessories for avatars, as well as premium building materials, interactive components, and working mechanisms.
