Elvis.Memphis: Review

Sony/RCA has launched a new, but not entirely undisputed release with the 5 CD/2 LP box set Elvis.Memphis. From the Sun recordings to the 69 sessions in the American Sound Studios to the 73 sessions in the legendary Stax Studios to the RCA recorded concert in Memphis from 20.3.74 to the so-called "Jungle Room Sessions" of 1976, we get a large part of all recordings that Elvis has ever recorded in his hometown Memphis/Tennessee, largely without overdubs and newly mixed by Grammy Award winner Matt Ross-Spang. But does the set deliver what it promises? Or is it just "old wine in new tubes" again? Follow my detailed analysis with numerous audio examples, in which I focus on either Elvis´ voice or the newly mixed instrumental tracks. Have fun!
