Lift Your Head Toward the Light "I am the light of the world" (John 8:12). Even a plant trapped in a narrow, dark crevice will instinctively bend its stem toward the light and grow if even a small ray of light shines upon it. This is called phototropism. For plants, light is not merely a symbol, but survival itself. A plant cut off from light will eventually lose its vitality, rot, and wither, no matter how much fertilizer or water it is given. Just as a plant's head turns toward the light, there is a direction that believers must invariably face. The same principle exists in the spiritual realm. Prayer is a holy act of lifting our heads toward the Lord Jesus Christ, the "Sun of Righteousness." Charles Spurgeon warned, "A Christian who does not pray is like a plant in a lightless room." As the darkness of the world deepens, believers must instinctively lift their heads toward the light to survive. This world is like a 'night' where the darkness deepens with each passing day. The only way to overcome this night is to gaze at the rising morning star and tune into the frequency of prayer. The moment a believer stops praying, he loses his spiritual phototropism and slowly withers away in the shadows of the world. Carnal Christians chase after the dazzling lights of the world, only to have their roots rot away; however, a true believer longs only for the light of truth testified to by the Korean King James Bible. Where is your soul bowing today? Turn your eyes away from the dark shadows of the world and lift your head high in prayer toward the Lord, the Light of Life. Only when a believer's knees touch the ground does his soul finally see the light of heaven.
