Growing up in a small house in Albany, New York, Professor Robert Langer FREng enjoyed maths, science and magic tricks, but he left school unsure what to do next. His intense curiosity and focus led him to become the most cited engineer in history, a chemical engineering professor at MIT, and winner of the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering. His innovations, including controlled release drug delivery systems and tissue engineering, have transformed a variety of medical treatments.
