Two police officers from the north of the country were hit by a car while documenting a traffic violation. The tragedy occurred on Tuesday afternoon, in the village of Grigorăuca in the Singerei district. The victims died at the hospital, despite the efforts of doctors to save their lives. The victims of the accident are Mihail Chiriac, who passed away at the age of 29, and Nicolae Dragan was only 25 years old. “The driver of the blue Volkswagen car fell asleep at the wheel. He woke up to find that he had hit a car, the police stopped someone and were documenting him, they were standing behind the car, it turns out that they were between two cars,” said a witness. The head of the General Inspectorate of Police, Viorel Cernăuțanu, arrived at the scene. He stated that the driver who caused the accident fell asleep at the wheel. "Preliminarily, what the driver of the vehicle that hit the car said, and from what we see, from the preliminary video images, he fell asleep, he also states that he fell asleep at the wheel and lost control of the vehicle, which led to the collision of these two police officers, who at that time were documenting a misdemeanor in that location," said Viorel Cernăuțeanu, head of the General Inspectorate of Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The loss of the two police officers is a true tragedy, said Viorel Cernăuțanu. "Something that moves both society and the entire police force, because these are our colleagues. We, reaching these painful situations, must continue to take care of them and their families. We see that there is also the father of a young man here, who, unfortunately, is difficult to explain to him and to be able to share his pain." Doctors say they did their best to save the police officers. Surgeons from Chisinau also intervened, but the injuries were too serious. “In the afternoon, around 3 p.m., two police officers who were on duty were brought in. As a result of a road traffic accident, they were in an extremely serious condition with acute polytrauma, traumatic amputation of the lower limb at the knee, one on the right, the other on the left, open polyfocal fracture of the leg bones, the opposite side of the limb, closed craniocerebral trauma, cerebral contusion, cerebral edema, lipid embolism, traumatic shock grade 3, irreversible,” said Ion Galus, a doctor at the Singerei District Hospital.
