Ash Grove (Llwyn Onn) on hammered dulcimer by Timothy Seaman

http://www.timothyseaman.com Another Celtic tune, this time a Welsh favorite! Timothy Seaman shares his own approach on solo hammered dulcimer, with his own composition as an introduction, interlude, and coda, copyright 1995 by Timothy Seaman and 2005 by Pine Wind Music, Inc. On the extended-range Dusty Strings D600 hammered dulcimer, the artist uses the suede side of the hammers and separates his hands like a pianist, choosing a broad range of diatonic chords from the keys of D and A --- just as many minor chords as major, for emotional effect. Some notes are changed or removed for the sake of playing the melody naturally on the left side of the dulcimer. Three studio recordings of this general arrangement approach exist: one in the medley 'Shady Groves' on the album Sycamore Rapids (http://timothyseaman.com/index.php/di... a second in a medley on the album Gentle Breeze Beneath the Trees (http://timothyseaman.com/index.php/ge... and the third with an ensemble arrangement in a medley on the album Wayfaring Stranger (http://timothyseaman.com/index.php/wa.... Down yonder green valley where streamlets meander When twilight is fading I pensively rove Or at the bright noon tide in solitude wander Amid the dark shades of the lonely ash grove. 'Twas there while the black bird was cheerfully singing Each warbler enchants with his note from a tree Ah! Then would I think not of sorrow or sighing: The ash grove enchanting spells beauty for me.
