TRIBUN-VIDEO.COM - Indonesian Minister of Trade Budi Santoso has spoken out in response to the closure of dozens of minimarket outlets in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), which has sparked unrest among hundreds of workers. The Minister emphasized that the case relates to licensing and spatial planning issues, not issues beyond administration. As reported by Parliament TV, Budi acknowledged his regret over the closure of the long-established retail outlets on Thursday (May 28). "We also regret that these retail outlets have been around for a long time, but why are they only being reorganized now?" Budi said during a working meeting with Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (May 26, 2026). Budi stated that his office has communicated with relevant parties to ensure the welfare of workers. Furthermore, Budi has proposed that any policies adopted by the region not sacrifice business continuity, legal certainty, or the welfare of employees. Budi Santoso also urged local governments to ensure transparent processing of retail permits for businesses. This is to prevent future problems.
