Then you’ve come to the right place. I’m going to show you four shapes that you need to harmonize in all keys all over the guitar. And, the great thing is that these shapes are so easy they can be practiced every day in about 2 minutes to help you learn all of the harmony (major & minor) for melodies and solos. The approach I will introduce in this lesson is called “Dyads.” The secret to learning them is all based upon a simple exercise that harmonizes the scale across strings 1 and 2, as well as, strings 3 and 4. Dyads are 2-note chords, but in music theory we refer to them as intervals. The effectiveness of creating a harmony with them helps to ensure you’re working on the strongest ones. For the best initial results with dyads it will help to focus on playing the primary Major and Minor dyads. These shapes are simple because there are only four in total. By using them we can perfect our coverage of the entire guitar neck. Dyads work fantastic to boost melody, since there is almost always one or two parts of a solo that is underdeveloped and sounds weaker than the others. Dyads allow for adding that often needed “extra boost” to a phrase. Their function has an incredibly strong capability to help highlight a melody and make it better sounding and develop its sound to peak capacity.
