Lauren's Story: The Childhood Cancer Family Experience
Childhood cancer is not an individual disease. It affects the whole family, community and society. On Wednesday, April 24, 2013, Lauren was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma. November 24th was her last day of chemo. Due to her cancer diagnosis and the drugs used to combat the cancer, Lauren will have to be monitored for late effects for the rest of her life. Knowing the long-term implications is invaluable for families; it gives them an element of control and highlights things they should be on the lookout for. The information POGO has gathered over 30+ years is helping Lauren now. And the information POGO is gathering now, from Lauren and other pediatric oncology patients, will inform Lauren’s doctors in the future. It’s always evolving.
