𝗥𝗔𝗠𝗣 𝗜𝗧 𝗨𝗣: Crews Install Barriers, Stripe New Pier Access Road

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Wednesday, March 25, 2026 — Construction crews advanced work on the Santa Monica Pier Bridge Replacement Project, installing concrete K-rail barriers along both sides of the newly paved temporary vehicle ramp following the completion of asphalt operations one day earlier. Heavy equipment operators were observed placing the large precast barriers into position, forming defined edges and protective separation along the ramp as it begins to take its final shape. The barriers are expected to guide vehicle movement and enhance safety once the ramp is opened for use. Following barrier installation, crews with Sterndahl Enterprises, Inc. carried out roadway striping, applying fresh double yellow centerlines and directional arrows to the new asphalt surface. The markings indicate traffic flow patterns and signal that the ramp is transitioning from construction phase toward operational readiness. The temporary ramp is a key component of the broader $35 million Pier Bridge Replacement Project, led by Shimmick Construction Company, which will replace the aging 1939 bridge with a modern, seismically resilient structure. The project is expected to continue through 2027, with access to the pier maintained throughout construction.
