Lo MEJOR de ZAGREB · La CAPITAL de CROACIA
In mid-autumn I visited Zagreb, in 2 days where I was able to see the best of the capital of Croatia. Do you want to know what to see in Zagreb and want a good guide to visit it? Well here you have what I did. The first day of things to see in Zagreb was dedicated to visiting what is known as the Upper Town, where the main monuments of the city are concentrated. The Upper City is divided into two neighborhoods, Kaptol and Gradec. Once we visited Ban Jelacic Square, the main square of Zagreb, we went to the Zagreb Cathedral which is located in Kaptol, a religious neighborhood of the city, just 50 meters from the Zagreb Cathedral we found Dolac Square where Find the Dolac open-air market, famous for its red umbrellas. We continue our route through the Puerta de Piedra, a small alley where we find a chapel with an image of the virgin and the child that was saved from a fire in the same location. This gate gives access to the administrative neighborhood of Gradec where St. Mark's Square is located, where we find the famous St. Mark's Church and the Sabor Palace, where the independence of Croatia was signed. A few meters away we came to see the cannon shot that is fired every day at 12 at the Lotrscak tower to synchronize all the bell towers of Zagreb. Next we go down from the Upper Town on the shortest funicular in the world. We then crossed the Gric tunnel, which was a bunker during World War II and is currently a free exhibition hall. We finished our day at the fantastic Museum of Broken Relationships. On our second day we headed to the Lower City. The Lower Town is known for being the one created by the Austro-Hungarian Empire. We begin the tour at the Zagreb train station, known as the obligatory stop for the Orient Express, from there we go to the impressive Esplanade hotel that was the headquarters of the Gestapo during World War II. Right next to this hotel is what is known as Herradura Verde, a group of 8 parks with historical buildings such as the Art Pavilion or the National Theater. Finally, before taking our bus to the Plitvice Lakes, we took a walk through the Botanical Park.
